Starting the first week of April 2003, the first, national “Jot-A-Postcard™” writing campaign will begin in the Fort Mill, S.C. School District, in cooperation with the Fort Mill High School ROTC program. We anticipate by the end of the month sending over 5,000 hand-written postcards from this one school district alone!

OUR MISSION:

  • To encourage children of all ages to send hand-written postcards to our troops and to their families. Could we suggest a “family writing night?”
  • To provide a rewarding and unique opportunity for children to show their patriotism and citizenship. A great summer writing project.
  • May 1st, and monthly thereafter, we’ll have pictures of those participating and the total number of postcards sent to that date, on our website: www.journaljots.com.

As some of you may know, I received many letters from soldiers during Operation Desert Storm and have kept them over the years to remind me and my family of the wonderful brave men and women we have in our Armed Services defending our country.

One soldier wrote,
I feel like a kid in a candy store waiting to hear my name and getting mail…if there is any.”

OUR HOPE:

  • To make sure when “Mail Call” is announced every soldier receives a special postcard greeting from someone back home.
  • To help alleviate some of the fear and anxiety our children are experiencing.
  • To continue this postcard writing campaign through the summer or until all military personnel are safely back home.

As we coordinate our efforts and collect postcards, WE ARE IN NEED of as many names and APO addresses of service men and women as possible. This list will not be shared with just anyone. We will only release this information to the coordinators who have requested to participate in this postcard writing campaign.

If you have a family member or friend in the military who you think would enjoy these postcards, please send their full name and APO address to info@journaljots.com and we’ll be sure to add them to our list.

Postcards are available on our website if folks would like to order them (less than five cents each) or just send any postcard you like! You can even recycle some Christmas or holiday greeting cards! Our company is sending thousands of small pocketsize journal books and pens to the troops. 100% of the profit for the postcard sales will help defray the cost of these mailings.

We welcome your participation and hope that this experience will be an enjoyable as well as an educational experience for all involved. Please feel free to contact us, info@journaljots.com if you have any questions or would like your school, camp, youth group/organization to participate. We’ll be happy to e-mail you an information packet full of helpful tips and ideas on how to implement the national “Jot-A-Postcard™” writing campaign in your community!
